I started playing Loomian Legacy today. This game is made by Llama Train Studio, the same studio that was behind Pokémon Brick Bronze years ago. For those of you who don't know: Pokémon Brick Bronze used to be a ROBLOX game revolving around Pokémon. You had to pick your starter and level it up, find new Pokémon, defeat trainers and gyms and find new evolutions of your Pokémon. Nintendo took this game down due to copyright issues and it has since been gone from ROBLOX. However, Llama Train Studio made a new game called "Loomian Legacy" which, if you judge from the thumbnail, is kind of like Pokémon Brick Bronze I think. So let's get on with this review.
So when you join this game for the first time and you enter the world, you will see many different things that have to do with the storyline, like a bit of the map. There's a lot of dialogue in this game, so it has a story. Which is nice, because not a lot of ROBLOX games have this. Then you get to pick your Starter Loomian. You can choose from 7 different breeds: Fire, Water, Lightning, Light, Dark, Plant and Ice. They're all cute little creatures and you can only pick one. If you want another starter you can purchase them with ROBLOX or be lucky that someone wants to trade some to you. I picked Dripple, the Water Loomian as my starter. I had to fight against my "mother"s Kabunga, which is a Plant type I think. Everything you have to do will be explained. I noticed however that this Kabunga Loomian does kind of effective moves and that my water starter's water move doesn't really do that much damage against it. So I had to spam the same move on it in order to win. I ended up winning though. I proceeded a bit through the storyline, not knowing what to expect. I did get to the first gym. What I noticed is that apparently, this game hasn't had a new gym/route update in a while so I heard some players arguing that the game got boring a bit. I can't judge this because I haven't explored the full game yet.
But yea I proceeded through a few minutes of dialogue and then caught my first few Loomians. You also get objectives in this game so you can proceed and know where to go. You also have corrupt Loomians, which you can't catch by the way, but you can still battle them and I believe you get boosts then but I'm unsure. There are a few legendaries so far but they are pretty hard to encounter unless you use a boost. You also have gleamings, which you could compare to "shinies" from the Pokemon Franchise.
This game is not a pokemon game. Many would believe it is due to similarities and PBB, but it's a game on it's own. It's an experience. It's unique, something original and I can tell by just playing this game for 5 minutes that the development team put a lot of time and effort into making this game the best it could possibly be. It's a very fun and entertaining experience.
To be fully honest, this isn't my favourite ROBLOX game, but it belongs to my top 10 for sure. I'd rate this with a 9/10. I'm definitely going to revisit this game, it was very fun. Pokemon Brick Bronze on itself had a community, it had something special. Loomian Legacy isn't as fun as PBB used to be, but it comes pretty close. Massive thumbs up to this development team and I can't wait to see in what direction this game is going to go in the future.
